The effort required to show respect is Zero. The ROI is limitless !
Each minute of our life is a lesson but most of us fail to read it. I thought I would just add my daily lessons & the lessons that I learned by seeing the people around here. So it may be useful for you and as memories for me.
Leaders don’t automatically gain respect from their employees; they need to earn respect by demonstrating that they value employees and prioritize their growth.
More people quit jobs because of a boss who makes them miserable. And why does failing leadership and mediocre cultures make employees miserable and want to quit? Answer is simple, Lack of respect.
The importance of respect in the workplace is something that must be understood by employees at every level of seniority. Respect at work is a vital part of establishing a healthy working environment. Mutual respect in the workplace lets all employees know that they are valued for their achievements, abilities, and qualities.
Being valued and treated respectfully helps to promote a positive work culture in which employees are fulfilled, loyal, engaged, and motivated to perform at their very best. Employees who do not offer respect to others are unprofessional and pose a threat to the health and success of their company.
When leadership respects their teams, they establish a platform that invites more participation and commitment. A respected employee feels valued and important. A respected employee will be more loyal, more productive and simply put… better.
Probably the most effective way to show respect is to listen and hear what a person has to say or offer. Empower your employees by listening and making them feel respected. It’s that simple.
“One of the best forms of respect is actually listening to what another has to say.”
Leaders don’t automatically gain respect from their employees; they need to earn respect by demonstrating that they value employees and prioritize their growth. Managers can earn more respect by improving their communication with employees and explaining important decisions. Gaining the respect of employees is important for management, because it improves workplace morale and can provide greater motivation among workers to be productive.
It’s natural for leaders to want to be liked by their direct reports. But, there is not a one size fits all approach, because every employee has different needs and will require a different approach. Get to know everyone on your new team and adopt the best strategy to gain the respect of the experienced employees.
Follow these fifteen easy tips to get your employees to like you:
- Listen to your team members and take their opinions into consideration to make them feel valued and show that they can always come to you.
- Give Respect it’s important that you first show them the respect they deserve. Treat all your workers fairly and demonstrate that you value them with your words and actions. Listen to their concerns and do your best to address them. If you treat your staff members well, they will likely reciprocate the respect you show them.
- Set clear expectations so workers know exactly what they need to do and can be more productive in their tasks.
- Recognize Successes You can earn the respect of employees by rewarding them for their accomplishments. Rewarding employees in the way they wish to be recognized demonstrates you care for them and creates a supportive work environment.
- Show Your Work Ethic It’s important that good managers lead by example. Provide the lead on projects when appropriate and be sure you’re not pushing your workload onto employees .Demonstrate through your work ethic and contributions that you’re a reliable member of the team worthy of your employees’ trust.
- Don’t break your word by failing to follow through on promises you make, whether it’s a small matter like providing feedback on work by a certain day or a larger concern, like promising a pay raise to an employee.
- Be constructive with your feedback to help your workers grow and improve in their jobs, rather than making them feel bad about their weaknesses.
- Be Consistent You should be consistent in your leadership approach and your expectations of people, so they always understand what’s expected of them. Being consistent builds trusts and helps earn the respect of your team.
- Ask for feedback on your performance and leadership skills from employees, to show that you care about their opinions and are willing to grow as a manager to better support your workers.
- Be a Firm Leader Managers who are pushovers with their workers don’t gain the respect of employees. Make decisions and stick to them if you feel it’s the right choice, even if it’s not popular with everyone.
- Have Their Backs Stick up for your employees and show that you have their backs. If an issue comes up with a project, you should shoulder the blame, rather than passing the blame off on your workers. On the flipside, if you receive praise, make sure to spread the praise around and publicly recognize the role your employees played in the success.
- Direct, train, don’t micro-manage Delegating tasks and trusting your employees to complete them is key to gaining the respect of your workers. Let them know you’re available if they have any issues or want to talk through a project, but don’t micromanage how they approach their work.
- Seek Out New Opinions You hired your employees for a reason, so be respectful of their opinions and open to their suggestions on new ways of doing things. Being open to new opinions shows that you’re flexible and committed to following the best ideas, not just the ones you come up with yourself.
- Show concern Employees are humans, they can fall sick. Lose loved ones and so on. When in their sad moments it behooves on a wise business owner to show genuine concern and offer to help when necessary. This elicits a lot of positivity that falls back on the growth of your business.
- Never threaten sack For every employer, SACK should be the farthest option and never used in any conversations with employees. Sack has never killed anybody nor gave them ginger to do better in a job. It only mounts an unnecessary pressure on the employee. Pressure to quickly get a new job which ultimately leads to costly mistakes and a dull in productivity.
Finally, when you don’t respect employees and provide a favourable work environment, they’ll use your internet subscription to apply for new jobs and leave your business stranded and backwards.
Think about this.
